In this post, I will explain you what key words are, how to select keywords properly. With this post the series of SEO posts actually stats as the previous ones were the supportive information for a successful and efficient SEO.

Key words are the magic players who let search engines to recognize your website and take your website to higher rankings. Key words are the single or multiple words that describe the content of your website most appropriately and relevantly. When you select keywords, you must do it very carefully and intelligently following the guidelines that I provide in this post.

There are few tools in the internet where you can find keywords. Two of them are www.keyworddiscovery.com and http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword/ . The keyworddiscovery.com asks for purchasing their service but also provides a free trial where you can register with an email. The free trial only allows limited number of keyword searches per day. But if you can create few email accounts and register in keyworddiscovery.com, you can easily avoid this limitation. SEO tools in seobook.com are absolutely free and they were designed by the father in SEO, one of my favorite, AARON MATTHEW WALL. These tools are highly used and trusted by many SEO guys around the world. If you have money to spend, there are hundreds of sophisticated and automated SEO software to be sold. But I personally feel that the free tools I provided are quite enough to SEO your website. All you have to do is thinking of a keyword or few keywords which describes the content of your website or webpage best. Then search them with an above mentioned tool and check the number of searches. You have to find your keyword or number of keywords in a way that they have the highest number of searches.

It is a better approach if you can have a keyword phrase than a single keyword. Because it is proved that the keyword phrases are more productive compared to a single keyword. For an example, let’s assume that your website is about webhosting and the keywords you found are “web hosting”, “cheap hosting” and reliable hosting”, you can make a phrase as “cheap reliable web hosting”. Never use a single key word or phrase for multiple pages. Always try to use a different keyword phrase for each webpage. Otherwise you will lose the quality and productivity of the SEO. Never use more than two primary and few secondary keyword phrases. I will let you how to and where to put these primary and secondary keywords in the coming posts.

If your website has more than hundred pages, make sure that all your pages convey the main theme and niche of your website. Each page must have a unique content and it should be informative and useful for your visitors and customers. As I mentioned earlier, you must have separate keyword phrases for each page. Always make sure that you select the best keyword phrase for each page.

If there are dynamically generated web pages in your website, you should find a technique to add the keyword phrase suitable for each page. For an example, if you provide a customized search option in your website, the result page will differ according to the search parameters. Then you have to define keywords for each criterion and add it in the programming level of the website.

The most important thing you must understand is, the best keyword phrase you found for a page might not be the best after few months. You must do keyword research few times per year if you maintain a high productivity in your SEO effort. In the next post I will explain you about the webpage optimization and homepage optimization.

In the previous post, I explained you how to select a domain name for your commercial web site and host it. In this post I will explain you about some important things to consider when designing your new commercial website. I never ask you to do as I say. But these are some important things if you plan to make profits from your SEOed commercial website.

If you know graphic design and web development, you will be able to save more from developing your website by yourself. But even if you are capable of doing these, you must put a great attention on its design and user friendliness. Therefore this post is important for everyone.

The first thing you must understand is, majority of your website visitors are general people who want to purchase your product or service. These people are not aware about the web designing or graphic design. They will consider the look of your website (appearance) and how important your product or service. Your home page is the most visited web page of your website. People who visit your website first see the index page. You have to make sure that this page is very attractive and it gives the information about your product or service. Then people who are interested will definitely stay there for another few seconds may be minutes. If you have a poorly designed index page, you won’t be able to attract many visitors. You must also maintain the same template in all other pages including the error pages. And make sure that you provide all the necessary navigation help to your visitors. Otherwise they will be confused if they go to a non index page and want to return to the main page. You must put a breadcrumb in your website and put a link to your homepage in every page.

And also make sure that you don’t make the website template attractive more than required. You must be able to match your website template with your product or service. If your template doesn’t convey a message to the visitor or customer about your service or product, it will affect your website visitors. Your website design must be clean, simple and yet professional. And remember not to put your sponsors’ advertisements in a way which will confuse the customers and visitors.

If you plan to build a dynamic website, make sure that all the error handling in the dynamic processes covered. If your customer or visitor experiences errors and see error pages generated by the database server or web application server, they will definitely be confused and won’t return to your page again and will complain about it. Make sure that all the possible exceptions and error are properly handled and the user is informed in an understandable manner by using customized error pages.

Never try to make the use of SEO techniques that I’m going to tell in the coming posts in a way that your website will be 100% search engine friendly and optimized but not user friendly. Even though your website a SEO hit, you will not attract visitors. Always use SEO techniques in a way that it will not confuse users.

If you plan to hire a web developer, make sure that he/she understands all your requirements. And select a template before you start development. There are many free web site templates available in the internet. If you are not satisfied with those designs, you can also buy a customized design for a reasonable rate. If you purchase it from a website, there is a chance that another one can use your template. Therefore if it is affordable, I recommend you to hire a web designer, to design a customized template which will be the one and only copy, a unique one in the whole internet.

Picking a domain name is very important for your commercial website and you must do it very carefully as it contributes to your progress when your website grows. You must have some basic knowledge on branding and then choose a domain name which is highly brandable. Simply it means that it should give an impression about the product or service that you are going to market. It is better if you can have a short and memorable name if possible. Because it will be a successful approach if you plan to design a long running website. It is also a good approach if you can find a domain name which has your best key words. (I will explain you about key words in the coming posts). Always make sure that you have selected and reserved a domain name before you start on the development of the website and it is more convenient and time saving if you buy the domain name from your web hosting service as many services provide a free domain name if you buy a hosting package. Ex. Godaddy.com, dreamhost.com (where this website is hosted). This will also save time and money on domain transferring.

When registering your domain name, make sure that you register it with an ICANN certified registrar. Always try to buy a .com domain. If not possible try for a .net or .org domain. And there are many new domains like .biz, .tv, .asia available too. Non .com domain is better than a less memorable, less branding and longer .com domain. If you plan your business for a specific country like France, always try to reserve a domain name specific to that country like .com.fr or .fr .

After you choose a domain name and reserved it, Host it with a reliable web hosting company like dreamhost.com or godaddy.com. There are many hosting service providers for cheap prices but most of them are not reliable. You don’t have to worry about the price as long as you plan to start a commercial and longer running website as the payment amount for your hosting will be very small compared to the profits you gain from the website if you market it correctly. And always remember that to launch your website when it is fully completed. I see many “under construction” launched sites. This will definitely not make a positive attitude with your future customers. And if you plan to make a dynamic website (which shows dynamic content specific to a customer after some processing), make sure that your web hosting service provides the technology support in your hosting package. For an example, if you are using PHP as the programming language for your dynamic website, your hosting service must provide PHP support in your hosting package. This is also same for the database if you are using them (ex. MySQL, Oracle).

There are few important things to consider before you design and host your website. Always remember that you can’t become a successful and profitable website owner unless you work hard with your website continuously. I’m telling you the best and proven way which is not a GET RICH QUICK METHOD (there aren’t any real get rich quick methods. You have to work hard to be successful in the online business). You must look after your website as a small child. Always keep it in mind.

If you plan to start a new website which will generate an income for you for a long time, the most important thing before you design and host is selecting a niche, a product or service which you are interested and willing to improve on it. Otherwise you won’t be able to continue with your website and you will definitely lose the motivation to improve it. Therefore select one that you like. That’s the first lesson in internet business. And then do a small research on the niche, product or service whether there is a demand for it. Otherwise there is no point even you like it. You must choose a niche, product or service that market wants.

Next thing you must do is finding out whether the market of your niche, product or service is saturated and whether there are big players and a high competition. If the market is saturated and there are many players with a higher competition, there is no point of entering to this market as you will definitely find it is very hard to do businesses there. Credit cards, prescription drugs, web hosting, posters, domain reservation and ink refills can be given as examples for over saturated markets.

Then check whether the product or service that you are going to sell can be sold through the internet and customers can easily buy them (whether you can provide secure online payment facilities and if needed home delivery).

If you have selected a niche, product or service according to all the above mentioned criteria, then you must plan how to make your website attractive and an interesting one for your customers. You must also plan a way to keep your customers attached to your website and how to attract new customers. These are mainly related to internet marketing. Therefore it is better if you can gain a basic knowledge on internet marketing before you start and continue it. All the top ranking websites have applied and practiced many internet marketing strategies to achieve their goals and come to the current position. You must never give up. That’s a must.

The last thing you must workout is finding ways to make your website a unique one compared to your competitor websites. This will definitely make more and more profits from it. Always try to make your website different from your competitors’ websites. Never try to copy their actions,strategies or website design. Make your one a ONE AND ONLY. This is one of the mistakes that most newcomers do. They try to copy, but not to be unique.
