If you know about what blogging is, there is no need to explain about self hosted blog and vendor hosted blogs. I thought to compare these two types of blogs in this post as it will give you some idea about both and what suits you most. Please make sure that this is the personal opinion of mine and you are free to comment on anything I publish in this post.

Thanks to the generosity of the blog platform vendors like Wordpress and Blogger we are blogging with a great freedom and most of us generate a reasonable income from them. They can be mainly divided into two categories, self hosted blogs and vendor hosted blogs. Some vendors like Wordpress provide both self hosted and vendor hosted facilities. Some vendors only provide vendor hosted facility (like blogger.com).

I think it is better to choose a self hosted blog if you are planning to blog for a long time and keep it with a unique domain name. Then it will be easier for you to customize your blog with various techniques and plugins. It will guarantee the total control of your blog is with you and you are the pilot. You won’t get the problem of paying for additional space quota in vendor hosted blogs if you host it in your own package. If you plan to improve your blog to a money making one, I firmly believe that you must go for a self hosted blog. Because there are some restrictions made on the vendor hosted blogs regarding advertising and other income related methods and techniques. It won’t be easy with the vendor hosted blogs if you plan to carry out our own advertising and marketing campaigns in your blog. If you are willing to add more customized features like email, chat, etc. you will have to definitely host your blog in your own hosting package.

It is better to go for a vendor hosted blog if you are experimenting or doing non-commercialized blogging. It won’t take a cent from your money. I have seen some blogs which are vendor hosted and having a great rank. Most of them are technical and non-profit oriented blogs. The choice depends on your intention about the blog. Vendor hosted blogs will reduce stress on handling your blog and maintaining it compared to self hosted blogs. If you plan to self host, you must do blogging platform updates by yourself where you will not have to any updates in vendor hosted blogs as they are automatically updated. If you don’t care about the web address (you will get a sub domain in a vendor hosted blog) and making money from it, I recommend you to go for a vendor hosted blog.

These are the main factors I feel when comparing self hosted blogs and vendor hosted blogs. This is a little different post compared to the posts that I have done before. I thought to write how I relieve my stress when working. I don’t know whether the methods mentioned here are 100% psychologically accurate. But I’m pretty sure that these won’t do any harm on you :-) .

In our day to day work there are many situations where our stress increases due to various reasons. Some of them are work load, pressure mounted by the boss, unwanted interactions or behavior of other employees. When the stress is up, it is very hard to carry our day to day work. Most of the time I work, I face lot of stress due to the industry that I’m in. But when I’m stressed the first thing I do is going out from my desk and have a small walk about 5 minutes around the office or outside the office. If I’m still feeling stress, I normally listen to a classical or a mind relaxing song. Sometimes I listen to mind relaxing music.

I also do blogging as I mentioned in a previous post (Blogs, are they relieving our mental stress?) where I definitely relieve my mental stress in a great way. Another thing I do sometimes is looking at a fish tank 3D screen saver. And sometimes if I feel stress when I’m not working and at home, I play video games and watch movies. But one thing I don’t do is getting angry with someone on something. It will double, triple your stress.

Meditation is a very good way of relieving stress. There are many techniques where you can do meditation while you work which ultimate target is relieving your stress. But truly speaking, I haven’t done it yet which I would love to do. Some time when I feel stress, I talk with someone about it. If I can’t talk, I will definitely at least have a web chat with someone who cares about me and always willing to help.

These are the methods I follow to relieve from stress. Almost all of these techniques work for me. If you think that these might be useful to you also, why don’t you have a try? Another very important thing is to consider is the way the courses are conducted and what special facilities you require to follow the course are. If it costs more than to follow the same course or degree in the traditional way, there is no point of going for an online course if the traditional course provider is not far away from your place.

You must also consider about the advisory and learning consultation they provide. Otherwise you find it is hard to follow and complete the course even though it is a well reputed one. Most of these online courses and degrees must provide mock exams in the same way that you face the real exam. Check whether those mock exams are available. You must also find out whether you can follow the course in balance with the general daily tasks that you do.
